Follow these simple do's and don'ts to ensure your keto diet is on the right track.
DO:
Consume leafy greens such as spinach, kale, cabbage and rocket. They are low in carbohydrates.
Include nuts in your diet - nuts are very nutritious, and most are a healthy addition to a keto diet.
Consume lean proteins - include lean meat, seafood and eggs in your daily diet as they are low in unhealthy fats.
Consume more seeds - chia seeds, sesame seeds, flaxseeds are great for improving the flavour of your meals.
DON'T:
Don't drink sugary drinks - drinks such as milk, lemonade, juice, beer, wine and cocktails should not be consumed during the keto diet.
Don't include grain foods - these foods are high in carbohydrates, starch and calories and should be avoided on most diets, but especially on the keto diet.
Don't eat high carbohydrate vegetables - potatoes, sweet potatoes and maize should not be on your food list at all.
Don't eat high-sugar fruits - some fruits, although healthy, are high in carbohydrates. You should avoid fruits such as bananas, mangoes, grapes and cherries.
